The recipe for prosperity
With our business approach being "Prosperity for Omnia through prosperity on the farm", the question arises: Is there a recipe for prosperity? If we say that our objective is to create prosperity on the farm, what steps are we following to accomplish this goal?
Omnia's recipe for prosperity starts with a few good ingredients, of which the most important one is innovation. Bill Gates, founder of the Microsoft Corporation, said: "Software innovation, like almost every other kind of innovation, requires the ability to collaborate and share ideas with other people, and to sit down and talk with customers and get their feedback and understand their needs." From this it is clear that innovation starts with people. This is one of the reasons why Omnia sees itself as a partner to our clients. Our personal approach ensures our continuous presence on the farm, not only to sell fertilizer, but to better understand our client's needs. With our "Feet on the farm" model, we ensure that we build valuable relationships with our clients in order to share ideas, get feedback and understand the challenges at farm level.
Here our extended team of representatives and agronomists plays an important role. The agronomist supports the representative in the field and makes well-considered recommendations based on information and analyses to add value on the farm.
Another ingredient Omnia uses in its recipe for prosperity is the investment in state-of-the-art facilities, knowledgeable people and the development of South African agriculture in general. Our manufacturing plants are situated across the country, of which four (chemical granulation, calcium nitrate, nitrophosphate and superphosphate plants) are unique in South Africa. Omnia also invests in its own Research and Development division that tests new ideas and ensures that existing products still meet the requirements of the farmer. Through this, our clients can be assured of the best quality products and services that will reduce their risk.
A comprehensive product range is another important ingredient. Every product manufactured in Omnia's fertilizer plants is formulated with a purpose to address a specific need on the farm, thereby increasing income or reducing risk. In the same way our recipe for prosperity is constantly tested and improved upon and, after more than 60 years in agriculture, we have a good idea of what is required. The main purpose is still to improve our clients' profitability and reduce their production risk, thereby ensuring their prosperity.
Understanding the need is one thing – but finding a solution requires knowledge and access to the necessary technology. Omnia's Strategic Agricultural Service division is constantly testing new technologies to determine what is effective and affordable at farm level. Because of this, farmers can benefit from the OmniSap® technology, the OmniBio™ soil health index, as well as various instruments that measure water use efficiency and nitrogen, among others. It is also important for Omnia to keep on learning and working with each other to constantly come up with new ideas.
In this edition of the newsletter, you will get a glimpse of the new technology we are busy developing within Omnia to put at your disposal. You will also see how we apply the knowledge and experience of our people to improve your profitability and reduce your risk.
